Arrowhead Pharmaceuticals develops medicines that treat intractable diseases by silencing the genes that cause them using RNA interference. Arrowhead chose Vogel Bros. Building Co. as the Construction Manager on two phase projects to construct their world-class headquarters that supports the company’s pharmaceutical research and manufacturing needs. The first phase consisted of a 140,000 square foot, three-story lab, office building. The entry is a round atrium with a three-story cascading circular staircase. The front undulating facade supports the open office plan, and a green roof terrace on the west side of the building carefully crafted in the shape of a double helix. The second phase consists of a 160,000 square foot cGMP manufacturing space to produce RNAi, short oligonucleotide molecules, upstream and downstream unit operations, material/solvent handling through the process, and final filtration/concentration prior to lyophilization. Together, this project was constructed with two design teams, two different delivery methods, all while connecting two buildings. The Vogel Bros. Building Co. project teams worked diligently to complete all 300,000 square feet in two years, three months, and 28 days from the start of design. Arrowhead is Vogel Bros. Building Co. fifth major building project at the Verona Technology Park.
