Vogel Bros. Building Co. delivered the 152,000-square-foot Waunakee Heritage Elementary School as the first phase of the 2022 Referendum. Combining modern design with a focus on safety and sustainability this new elementary school replaces the former 100+ year old facility. Key features include a STEAM area, enhance learning efficiency. The facility’s sustainable systems integrated many features such as 78 geothermal wells, rooftop solar panels, high-efficiency HVAC sytems, green roof areas all support reducing the building’s environmental impact. The design also pays homage to the history of the existing Heritage elementary school by incorporating multiple elements from the old building into the new construction. Student focused elements include flex cafes for each grade level to improve efficiency during lunch hours. The classrooms are larger, with dedicated restrooms for early childhood and kindergarten rooms, along with spaces for small group instruction and cubbies. Indoor specialty play equipment offers four sensory swings to help calm students and reduce anxiety.
