Vogel Bros. served as the Design-Build General Contractor for the renovation and modernization of the 51,500-square-foot Metcalfe’s Sentry Foods store located at 726 N. Midvale Boulevard in Madison, Wisconsin.
The project included a comprehensive upgrade of the existing retail space to enhance store layout, customer experience, and operational efficiency. Improvements included the relocation of frozen foods; expansion of the dairy and dry goods departments; renovation of the fish and meat departments; and the addition of a new bakery, deli, floral department, liquor department with beverage cooler, customer service counter, and additional checkout lanes.
A subsequent remodel focused on expanding value-added offerings to align with evolving consumer trends in the grocery industry. Enhancements included prepared take-home foods such as deli salads and entrées, a self-serve hot stir fry bar, fresh sushi, a hot chicken wing bar, hot meals-to-go, and a stonefire hearth pizza station. The project also expanded the seafood, service meat, liquor, wine, and floral departments, and introduced an artisan and gourmet cheese department featuring more than 500 varieties of local, organic, and international cheeses.
Through thoughtful phasing and strategic renovations, Vogel Bros. successfully delivered a modernized retail environment that strengthened Metcalfe’s competitive position while maintaining uninterrupted store operations and enhancing the overall customer experience.
