Vogel Bros. Building Co. served as the General Contractor for sitework and concrete construction on the Tampa Bay Water 66 MGD Surface Water Treatment Plant, a landmark new construction project for Tampa Bay Water.
Constructed as a new 66 million gallons per day (MGD) surface water treatment facility, the plant was designed by DCM and incorporates a patented ACTIFLO® high-rate ballasted flocculation process, integrated with ozonation and biologically active filtration using deep-bed granular activated carbon. This advanced treatment configuration positioned the facility among the most technologically sophisticated water treatment plants in the region.
Vogel Bros.’ scope included all major sitework and cast-in-place concrete construction, forming the backbone of the plant’s extensive process basins, structural foundations, and heavy civil infrastructure. The project required precise coordination to construct large reinforced concrete treatment structures, equipment pads, and supporting infrastructure essential to the plant’s hydraulic and operational performance.
Recognized at the time of completion as the largest surface water treatment plant in Florida and among the most technologically advanced in the world, the facility was delivered on schedule and within budget. The project stands as a significant regional infrastructure achievement, strengthening potable water supply reliability for the Tampa Bay area through advanced treatment technology and high-quality construction execution.
