Project Description

Evansville’s historic 110-year-old library received some much needed renovation after years of fundraising and planning efforts were finally approved. The addition will modernize the building and provides more rooms for programming, teen space, conferences and other community needs. The project began with asbestos abatement and demolition of the old post office that sat abandoned on the adjacent lot. This was to serve as the space for future expansion for the library. Demolition of the post office resulted in extensive unexpected soil engineering, as the remains for a church were found under the foundation of the post office. Poor soil and the material debris were removed and suitable soils were brought in. Pylons were driven into the ground to support the new foundation and basement of the library.
